Fruit Blast
Match-three against a clock, a score target and a board full of blocks that will not move
About Fruit Blast
Eight by eight, six fruits, swap two neighbours to line up three. That much is familiar. What makes this version its own thing is that matching fruit is only half the job: the board is seeded with stone blocks no swap can touch, and a level clears only when you have hit the score target and broken every last block. Blocks take one, two or three hits, and the only way to damage one is to clear a fruit sitting directly beside it.
Levels are generated rather than hand-built, and they get meaner in three directions at once. The target climbs, the clock shrinks from just over a minute towards twenty-five seconds, and from about level three the board starts including countdown bombs, which tick down one step per move and end your run outright if one reaches zero. A couple of levels later iced fruit arrives: a frozen piece has to be cleared twice.
One run carries across as many levels as you survive, and unspent time converts to bonus points at each level end.
What is different about this version
Levels here are not move-limited, they are timed, and that changes what a good player looks like — hesitation is the expensive thing, not a wasted swap. The two win conditions are also separate and both compulsory: hitting the target score with one block still standing gets you a notice telling you to go and break it, not a level complete. Bombs are the real teeth. They count down per move rather than per second, so a long cascade costs you nothing but three cautious swaps at the far end of the board might cost you the run. The board also reshuffles itself automatically when no legal move remains, and the clock keeps running while it does.
How to play Fruit Blast
- Swap two neighbouring fruits to line up three or more of a kind.
- Everything above a cleared row drops, and any new line it forms clears too.
- Fruits cleared next to a block chip it. Blocks cannot be matched directly.
- Clear the target score and every block before the timer runs out.
- Defuse countdown bombs the same way — clear something beside them before they hit zero.

Strategy
Read the blocks first, always. The score target tends to arrive on its own if you keep swapping, but a block in an awkward corner can sit untouched for forty seconds while you clear fruit in the middle and wonder why the level will not end. Work outward from them: find a match that puts a clearing fruit orthogonally beside a block and prefer it over a bigger match somewhere harmless. A three-hit block needs that three times, so start on it early.
Cascades are where the scoring actually lives, because the multiplier climbs with each chain step rather than with match length. A four in a row is worth forty times one, but the third stage of a cascade multiplies everything falling in it by three, and matches near the bottom of the board have far more above them to drop. All else equal, play low.
The special pieces are block-breaking tools more than scoring tools. Four in a line gives a blast along that direction, five gives a colour blast that clears every fruit of that type wherever it sits, and an L or T shape gives a three-by-three burst. Line blasts are the reliable answer to a block at the edge of a row; a colour blast is the panic button when a bomb has two moves left and nothing near it matches. Save them rather than setting them off by accident, and remember they chain — a special caught in someone else's clear goes off too.
Mistakes that cost you the game
- Leaving a three-hit block until last. Three separate adjacent clears is not something you can arrange in ten seconds.
- Spending moves far from a ticking bomb. The counter moves on your swaps, not on the clock.
- Setting up a perfect five while the timer bleeds out. Two quick threes usually bank more.
- Trying to swap a block or an iced fruit into a match. Blocks never move, and ice has to break first.
Tips
- Play the lowest available match when two look equal. Everything above it has further to fall.
- A special forms on the fruit you moved, so you can place a line blast where you want it.
- Ice takes two clears, and blocks a special from forming on that square at all.
- Clearing beside a block hits it even if the block was nowhere near your match.
- Unspent seconds convert to bonus points, so finishing early is worth real score.
- After a shuffle, look again from scratch. The layout you memorised is gone.
Questions about Fruit Blast
Do I run out of moves?
No, you run out of time. Levels have a clock instead of a move limit, and the board reshuffles itself if it runs dry of legal swaps.
Why has my level not finished when I have hit the target?
A block is still standing. Both conditions count — the score and every block broken.
What happens if a bomb reaches zero?
The run ends immediately. Bombs tick on your moves, not on the clock.
Where does my final score come from?
It accumulates across every level cleared, time bonus included, so a deep run beats one strong level.
Does it cost anything?
No. Fruit Blast is free to play, runs in your browser, and needs no download, install or account.
