Pocket Prix
Palm-sized open-wheel racers, three laps round a floating island circuit
About Pocket Prix
Four little open-wheel RC racers line up on a grid painted onto a floating island. The circuit is a proper Grand Prix layout rather than a loop: a long main straight under the start gantry, a tight hairpin, a fast sweeper, a run of esses and a chicane. Five lights come on one by one, go out, and three computer drivers take their own racing lines with their own small mistakes.
What is different about this version
Slipstream is a real mechanic here: tuck in within about a car and a half behind a rival for just over half a second and you get a short tow boost, shown as streaks around your car. The computer drivers use it too, so the long main straight is where most places change hands.
How to play Pocket Prix
- Wait for the five gantry lights to go out, then hold throttle.
- Steer with the arrows or A and D, brake with Down or S.
- Hold Space while steering to drift through the tight corners.
- Sit close behind a rival for a moment to catch its slipstream and boost past.
- Finish three laps in first place to win.
Controls
| Desktop | Up or W throttle, Down or S brake, Left and Right or A and D steer, Space drift. Escape pauses. |
|---|---|
| Phone or tablet | Throttle is automatic. The two arrow buttons steer; hold DRIFT while steering to slide, or hold it straight to brake. |
| Players | One player. Any other characters on screen are run by the game. |
Strategy
Grass does not stop you, it just caps your speed, so a wide line costs time rather than the race. Brake before the hairpin, not in it, and drift only where the corner is tighter than your grip. Save overtakes for the straight after a slow corner, where a slipstream tow is almost guaranteed.
Mistakes that cost you the game
- Going flat out into the hairpin and running wide onto the grass.
- Drifting through fast corners where grip alone would carry you.
Tips
- Stay behind a rival on the straight until the tow kicks in, then pull out.
- Easy, Normal and Hard in the pause menu change how fast the rivals are.
